X Candlestick Holders

The X Candlesticks were commissioned by Ceres Fairwood in collaboration with Melbourne Design Week 2023 as part of the ‘Origin to Object’ show. A group of Naarm-based makers were selected to produce a piece of furniture or domestic object to highlight the beauty of timbers stocked by Ceres Fairwood, who provide ethically sourced salvaged timbers within a market characterised by opaque practices.

Macrocarpa (Monterey Cyprus) was chosen for this piece given its warm hues and availability due to the spread of Cyprus Canker throughout Victoria. The candlestick holders were developed using a range of hand and powered tools (planer thicknesser machine, band saw, chisels etc) to arrive at the final intersecting forms.
